Scientific Name: Pinus nigra

The Black Pine or Austrian Pine is an attractive and popular landscape tree prized for its dense, dark green foliage. 

Description

Height: 40-60 feet (12-18 meters)
Spread: 25-35 feet (7.6-11 meters)
Leaf: 2-4 inches (5-10 cm)
Range: Not native to North America (USDA Hardiness Zones 5 through 8A- most of the continental North America with the exception of the northern plains, the Canadian prairies and the southern and western coastal areas of the United States.)

General Care Tips

The Black Pine grows on a wide variety of soils. It prefers full sun. Care should be taken when transplanting to use container trees when possible.

Things to Watch For

Pests include adelgids, bark beetles, sawfly larvae, pine spittle bugs, spruce mites and the Zimmerman pine moth.

Black pines are extremely susceptible to tip blight.
