Sambucus caerulea: Blue Elderberry Seeds

Zones: 5 to 7
Mature Height: 20 feet

The Blue Elderberry has dark blue fruit that appear pale blue due to the white waxy substance that covers them. The sweet fruits attract birds. Its yellow-white flowers are borne in flat clusters. This tree has grayish brown to black bark and smooth, dark green leaves. A very beautiful small tree or upright shrub.

When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Blue Elderberry has a fairly rapid growth rate. It grows up to 20 feet in height and 20 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 5 to 7. Prefers full sun to part shade. Will tolerate drought but needs well-drained, deep soil.
