Leaf of Cedar of Lebanon
G. Lumis

Scientific Name: Cedrus libani
Other Common Names: n/a

Summary
Foliage: Needled Evergreen
Height: 40-70 feet
Spread: 20-30 feet
Shape: Irregular pyramidal
Growth Characteristics: Slow-growing (less than 1 ft. per year)

The Cedar of Lebanon is the most cold-hardy species of cedar. It is very similar to the Atlas Cedar, but with a much thicker trunk.  The foliage is bright green and the canopy is open and irregular.  Like the Atlas Cedar, it is not suited to street plantings, but makes an exceptional specimen tree.

Plant Needs
Zone: 6-10
Light: Full sun
Moisture: Intolerant of humidity, tolerant of drought
Soil Type: Prefers well-drained, fertile soil, but tolerates infertile, dry or alkaline soil

Care
Fertilize with formulations that promote woody, strong growth rather than excessive foliar growth. Pruning is generally not necessary to grow a strong tree, but may be required to prevent low-hanging branches from interfering with pedestrian traffic.

Problems
No major pest problems.
