Smallish, 'oriental'-looking tree having dense foliage and spreading habit. Very tough. Vivid scarlet autumn colour makes this an excellent ornamental planting. Often used in Japanese landscaping and bonsai.

How To Start These Seeds:
Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours
Stratification: Warm stratify for 60 days, cold stratify for 120 days
Germination: Sow seed 1/4 inch deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed
