The Washington Hawthorn is slightly larger and later to flower than the European or English hawthorn. Bears white flowers in spring followed by red to orange fruits which persist into winter. Has green glossy leaves that turn orange then red in the fall. This is the best Hawthorn for the South.
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Washington Hawthorn has a moderate growth rate. It grows up to 30 feet in height and 25 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 5 to 8. Prefers full sun and well-drained soil.
