The sloped roof extends over the front of the house to help shield the interior from rain, and rounded roof edges help direct water away. Ventilation slots beneath the roof support airflow, while drainage gaps in the floor corners help keep the nesting area dry.

A bag of wood chips is included to help create a more natural nesting environment for flickers. One side panel lifts open for nest checks and seasonal cleaning. The unfinished pine will gradually weather to a gray tone with outdoor exposure.
