Safflower birdseed features a hard outer shell that requires a strong bill to crack open, making it ideal for attracting Northern Cardinals, Mourning Doves, Black-capped Chickadees, Carolina Chickadees, and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. The seed's difficulty to open naturally discourages visits from grackles and starlings—a practical solution during spring and fall when these species dominate feeders.
Safflower is also largely ignored by squirrels, protecting your investment. Rich in oil and high in energy, it's an excellent choice for winter feeding and year-round nutrition. Feed throughout the seasons: spring supports migrating birds, summer fuels breeding and nesting, and fall and winter provide critical nutrition during cold snaps and snow.
