Similar to the Balsam Fir, but generally is found farther south. Symmetrically pyramidal form. 1/2 to 1-inch long, dark green needles. Widely used as a Christmas tree.
Fraser Fir prefers well-drained, moist, acidic soils. It can benefit from some protection from dry, cold winter winds.
How To Start These Seeds:
Scarification: Soak in water, let stand in water for 24 hours
Stratification: Cold stratify for 30 days
Germination: Sow seed 1/4 inch deep, tamp the soil, mulch the seed bed
Other: Fall sowing in mulched beds is often prefered to artificial strat and spring sowing.
