The Red or American Mulberry is more open and irregular than the white mulberry. Bark is a red-brown colour and becomes ridged with age. Dark green leaves, dark red or purple fruit. Native to eastern and central North America. Good wildlife attractor.
When choosing a location, keep in mind that the Red or American Mulberry has a rapid growth rate. It grows up to 60 feet in height and 40 to 50 feet in spread. It can be planted in zones 6 to 9. Prefers rich, moist, well-drained soil full or partial sun.
